The Beginning…
The quest to find the best doughnut began many years ago - from home-state heroes like Johan’s Bakery, to New York City’s Dough Doughnuts, to the West Coast gems of Dough Joy and Bob’s Donuts - I’ve tried every size, shape, and type of doughnut out there and they all had one thing in common: they weren’t mine. With a lifelong dream to own a doughnut shop, I set out on a journey to pull the best features of every doughnut and create an objectively great product. Lacking any baking experience of my own, I hoped YouTube, recipe books, and journal articles would hold the answers.
On June 6th, 2023 Fatty Daddy Doughnuts LLC. was licensed before a single doughnut was made. Ten days later at my childhood home, Mom and I picked a recipe, plugged in a $36 fryer from Amazon and the first Fatty Daddy doughnut hit hot oil; under-kneaded, under-proofed, and under-cooked,
but a start.
Evolution…
Over 400 recipe variations later, the Fatty Daddy Doughnuts signature yeast dough recipe is one I am very proud of. Containing zero pre-made mixes, and no artificial preservatives, it eats clean, tastes amazing, and feels artisanal yet delicate.
With over 100 flavors tested to date, and infinitely more always on the horizon, Fatty Daddy Doughnuts will continue to pursue the perfect bite and share all that deep fried imagination along the way.
